What is the overall objective/purpose of the Material Handler position?

The Material Handler ensures the flow of materials in to, out of, and throughout the production area of the manufacturing facility.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Perform and direct the mold and material changing processes
  • Assure that mold set up, changeovers, and housekeeping standards are met
  • Ensure new job start-ups run correctly, making any necessary adjustments
  • Work with production personnel to ensure molded parts meet requirements, make adjustments as necessary
  • Troubleshoot processing problems including normal adjustments and checks
  • Ensure molding machines and supporting systems are set to correct parameters and meeting the production goals
  • Verify process parameters and implement changes, as appropriate, to improve cycle times
  • Inspecting parts to ensure they meet the customer specifications
  • Stop production to correct any quality issues
  • Review and inspect machines daily for maintenance issues and report to the maintenance department
  • Monitor, train, and coach the machine operators to ensure they are following proper procedures
  • Follow all clean up and housekeeping procedures
  • Comply with all safety, quality and work rules and regulations
  • Other duties may be assigned as necessary

 

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Must have completed Advanced Plastiform Inc forklift certification course
  • Must be able to maneuver large equipment, i.e. hi-lo, in tight, confined areas
  • Must have basic computer skills, experience using bar code scanners preferred
  • Great attention to detail
  • Must be a self-motivated and independent worker
  • Must be able to work within time limits
  • Must have basic math skills

 

Education and Experience:

  • High School diploma, GED or equivalent experience
  • Previous material handling experience preferred

 

Physical Demands:

This position requires the employee to be physically strong as there will be much heavy lifting. The employee will have to spend much time standing and bending. This employee will drive a Hi-Lo and use other equipment to move materials around, such as pallet jacks and hand truck. Good close and distant vision and peripheral vision is required.

 

Work Environment:

The employee will spend the bulk of their time moving material around the production area and staging material, by moving it into production and out of production to the loading of trucks. The employee will be exposed to loud noises, varying temperatures, and could be exposed to some fumes or odors. Material Handlers will also be going outside to retrieve material, take garbage out, etc. They will be exposed to the natural elements and should be dressed appropriately for the weather. Hearing protection and safety glasses would be required in all of these areas
